ArtLab23 is all the original paintings and prints of Carissa Weber. She hopes her artwork grabs you by your soul and inspires you to create. She knows she is alive to ignite people's inner flame of creativity.

A southern California native, she started selling art out on the Venice boardwalk in the summer of 2011. First starting out with hand painted rocks and original paintings, she then learned from other Venice sellers how to make prints. By developing tourist-friendly prints from her original larger works she has been able to share her art with people visiting from all over the globe and focus on her art career full time. All thanks to Venice Beach!

Elza Queen

Elza Queen - visual artist, mentor, youth art instructor, jewelry designer born in Hawthorne, CA, discovered her creative gift while attending Mt. San Antonio College in 2007. Her innate artistic eye led her to acquire a unique style of expression through the blending of colors. This, in turn, led to the fascination for different cultures that resonates in her unique, distinctive creations - and her use of colors - all of which are enhanced by her eclectic style. She is active in mentoring youth through the arts, and when asked why, she stated, "I believe that all youth should be able to creatively express themselves through art, and my purpose is to guide." Elza has showcased her work throughout Southern California, including at the 2014 Venice Spring Fling. She loves to support the arts!
Author: Carlos Allende will be signing books at Venice Beach Music Fest 10. Book Title: Love, or the Witches of Windward Circle Connection of the Book with Venice: The book is set in Venice throughout its first six decades of existence, from before there was a Venice to the beatnik era, 1959. It is a horror farce, a fantasy set in a historical background. It follows the misadventures of a nameless little woman, the third daughter of a witch who is a resident of Rancho La Ballona and descendent of Californios. The witch and her daughters live in what is now Windward Circle. Abbot Kinney is mentioned as a minor character. He buys the witch’s land, whose family is forced to move to what is now the Canal District, then Venice is built around the new house (probably the houses in the canals would have been built AFTER the canals, but it’s fiction). Almost fifty years later, Venice is now a slum, full of panhandlers, winos, criminals and… BEATNIKS! The second part of the story is set in 1959. The little woman, now old, becomes obsessed with a young girl whom she wishes to kill to use in a potion. The girl, Josie García, is in love with a Beanitk. She is a regular at the Gas House Cafe. The story is a circus, like the Venice boardwalk. I tried to represent as many ethnicities and characters that actually lived in Venice during the period: Californios, whites, blacks, Mexicans, Japanese, Catholics, Baptists, Jews, gangsters, poets, drug addicts, beatniks, squares, artists, the Los Angeles Police, closeted gays and, of course, supernatural characters. I also wanted to portray racial tension, inequality, women’s subordinate role, and other social conflicts from the era, but not in a moralistic tone: It is a dark comedy, heartbreaking and hilarious at the same time. You won’t find battles of good vs. evil in the book, just plain evil. wink emoticon The two main characters are 100% anti-heroines. The little woman is old, ugly and becomes a murderer, but I manage to have the reader feel for her and wish for her a happy ending. The other, Josie García, is an anti-princess: Pretty, but selfish and superficial, with low-morals and full of prejudice. She sounds hard to like but I manage the reader to feel for her too and enjoy the bumpy ride, one as exciting as those that once thrilled the crowds at the pleasure piers of Venice. Linda Kelly

Linda Kelly will be signing books from 11 Am until 2 PM.

Linda Kelly experienced her first concert when she was 15 -- the Sex Pistols' very last show at the notorious Winterland -- and has been a great lover of music ever since. She majored in journalism at San Francisco State University and has been a writer/editor for the likes of Spin Magazine, Mix Magazine, Quokka Sports, Lucasfilm, Astrology.com/NBC Universal, and even penned lyrics for the Spin Doctors. After seven years in New York City, she now lives back in her native Bay Area in the Haight-Ashbury district -- just blocks away from the Grateful Dead's home in the '60s -- where she's busy collecting more experiences and stories to share.

Through sweet synchronicity, she had the divine, beautiful, weird, hilarious pleasure of hanging and grooving and dancing and laughing with Jerry and Bobby and a few of their colorful cohorts (Bear, Lesh, Barlow, Leary to name a few) for a good spell in New York and California. The time spent being in that wildly unique mix of fine folks is the fodder and inspiration for this book -- and for which she is infinitely grateful.

As Bob Dylan once told her while on tour in 1989, "You gotta do something!"

About the book: Just what was it about the Grateful Dead that made them rock and roll's most beloved band? In Deadheads: Stories from Fellow Artists, Friends & Followers of the Grateful Dead, by Linda Kelly, those with the real story, who were there and are still listening to the music, explain it all. First-show revelations, backstage adventures, parking lot hoopla, how-to-live-life philosophies, strange tangential experiences stemming from being in that certain place at that certain time -- these intriguing anecdotes by the Dead's diehard fans tells the story of a fascinating phenomenon in the history of music. This twentieth-anniversary edition of Deadheads celebrates fifty years of music and includes the best stories from the original 1995 edition, two new chapters, as well as new interviews with various friends, artists and followers of the Grateful Dead. "One of the best books on the Grateful Dead." -- Rolling Stone
